Ex-track star killed in shooting

PEORIA -- Police are investigating a shooting outside a Peoria Christian dance club that killed a former area track star and wounded two others.
Police responding to reports of a fight outside the club early Sunday morning found 26-year-old Teddy Jackson with a gunshot wound to the head. Jackson was the Peoria Star Journal's 2001 male track athlete of the year. He died about 30 minutes later at a local hospital.
Police Sgt. Joe Benko says two other victims are being treated for gunshot wounds that are not life threatening. Benko says detectives continue to talk to people in an effort to develop leads.
