Perkins, Fowles lead Sky to win over Mystics

WASHINGTON -- Jia Perkins scored 20 of her 28 points in the second half, and Sylvia Fowles had career-highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Chicago Sky beat the Washington Mystics 79-75 on Friday night.

Dominique Canty added 10 points for the Sky (10-17), who won on the road Thursday, beating New York 69-60. It was the Sky's second win in eight games all-time against Washington.

They took the lead for good at 72-71 on Candice Dupree's layup with 2:08 remaining. It was the first basket of the game for the Sky's leading scorer, who tacked on another basket moments later to give them a three-point lead.

Fowles, a member of the gold medal-winning U.S. women's basketball team, had a putback and three free throws in the final minute to account for the Sky's final five points.

Alana Beard scored 18 points and Monique Currie added 16 for the Mystics (10-17), who shot 38 percent from the field in their first game following the month long Olympic break. Currie had two shots inside to tie the game within the final 10 seconds, but they both fell off the rim.

It was the Mystics first game following the trade earlier this month that sent leading rebounder and second-leading scorer Taj McWilliams-Franklin to Detroit. Rookie Tasha Humphrey, acquired in the trade, had 11 points and nine rebounds in her Washington debut and Coco Miller added 12 points.

Miller, in the starting lineup for injured point guard Nikki Blue, led the Mystics with nine points in a ragged first half as they took a 36-33 lead. Fowles was 6-of-8 from field and had 13 points for the Sky in the first half.
