Des Plaines' first family prepares to leave

Des Plaines' first family is planning their final "first lady's luncheon" and "mayor's prayer breakfast" before term limits force the mayor to leave the post next spring.

Jean Arredia will host the First Lady's Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 14, the sixth year for the event that she founded as first lady. The topic is interior design. Tickets are still available for $30 through the mayor's office at (847) 391-5301.

Mayor Tony Arredia will preside over his final mayor's prayer breakfast on Oct. 30 at 7:30 a.m. at Manzo's Banquets & Catering, 1571 Elmhurst Road. The 11th annual event will focus on diversity, but no guest speaker has been lined up yet.

Like the luncheon, the $25 tickets are available at the mayor's office.

Arredia is looking at his final turn much like the change in seasons.

"Everything ends sooner or later," Arredia said. "These are things that happen. I enjoyed the prayer breakfasts. We always had a good attendance so I'm assuming everyone enjoyed it."

Des Plaines has term limits so elected officials can only serve two four-year terms.
