Barrington to celebrate with Red Stampede

Barrington is looking to have a sea of red for the football opener of its brand-new stadium tonight.

The "Barrington Stampede," which is sponsored in part by the Broncos Care football team service organization, will take place before today's 7:30 p.m. game with Libertyville.

All fans who bring three non-perishable food items or a minimum $5 donation will receive a "Red Stampede" T-shirt for the game. T-shirts will be given out while supplies last.

All food donations will go to Barrington area food pantries. Monetary donations will be used to support future Broncos Care community service projects.

Homing in: Forest View will look a lot better for St. Viator home games with brand new visiting stands and a new scoreboard unveiled for tonight's opener with Hersey.

Viator is also starting an initiative at all of its home games where the first 100 junior high students can receive a T-shirt in addition to learning more about the school.

And tonight's cross-town matchup kicks off the fifth year of games of the week in the Northwest suburbs broadcast live on the internet by Tom Wuestenfeld at www.varsitygameoftheweek.com.

Runner-up reunion: Barrington will honor the 1998 team that finished second to Wheaton Warrenville South in Class 6A at the Sept. 12 home game with Prospect.

Players and coaches from the team that went 13-1 will be recognized at halftime and a postgame get-together is planned.
