Cats, kittens for less:

Homes for Endangered & Lost Pets will hold a cat/kitten adoption day at National City Bank from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 6 at the 2600 E. Main St. branch in St. Charles. More than 30 cats and kittens will be up for adoption. As an incentive, the group is reducing its adoption fee for cats and kittens through the end of September. The fee includes vaccinations and parasite control, spay or neuter surgery, FIV/FeLV testing and microchipping. Benefit concert slated:

National recording artist Robbie Fulks will headline the Sept. 6 Concert for a Cure. The concert will raise money for the Paul Ruby Foundation. The foundation supports the Parkinson's Disease and Movement Disorders Center of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The concert will also feature HOSS, Noah Gabriel and the Gaddis Girls. Radio personality Lisa Dent will emcee. Tickets to the concert, dinner and silent auction ($25 for adults; $10 for children 12 and under) are available at Park Place Interiors, Kiss the Sky and Mill Creek Market, all in Geneva. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.paulrubyfoundation.org.

'Garbage' to be shown:

How much garbage does an average family generate in three months? What is the effect on the environment? Watch "Garbage: The Revolution Starts at Home" at 7:15 p.m. Sept. 6 at River Park, North River Lane, Geneva. The Geneva Green Market and Geneva Film Festival present the film. Those who plan to attend were asked to bring a blanket or chair and a flashlight. Root beer floats, apple cobbler and cookies will be sold. Preshow dessert tickets will be sold at Geneva Green Market (five desserts for $20) from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays. All proceeds will benefit the Geneva Green Market. Violence counseling offered:

The Community Crisis Center in Elgin provides domestic violence counseling services for northwestern Kane County. A licensed counselor and is available to adult and adolescent females. Services are free. Experts say one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
