Ready to support Obama, but with pride in Hillary

Wednesday a.m.: I just cast my vote for Hillary Clinton.

The Illinois delegation voted during the morning meeting at the hotel. It was just a simple find your name, check your choice and sign. Mayor Daley will report the results at the convention. Clinton delegates voted for Clinton.

It was an honor to make that vote for those in the 13th district who supported Sen. Clinton.

Hillary's speech Tuesday night was wonderful. When she told the story of Seneca Falls and the First Women's Rights Convention and Harriet Tubman's directions to keep running on the Underground Railroad, I couldn't hold back the tears.

Sen. Clinton's race is now a part of that wonderful history, or herstory as we sometimes call it. This moment was worth every minute of those 19 months of campaigning.

Her loss, though, means women still have a long journey toward full equality. This was especially evident as we heard the voices and direction of the men of the congressional delegation at this meeting. There are only a couple women in the Illinois congressional delegation, and they spoke yesterday.

We have much to do.

Next, I'm off to the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgendered) caucus, a Clinton delegate reception, a Madigan reception at Coors Field, the convention and a Senate Democratic event back at the hotel.

Sometime later tonight, I will put on a button that says, "HILLARY supporter for Obama."
