North Chicago man fatally shot in home

An apparent home invasion in North Chicago early Monday ended in the shooting death of a 38-year-old man.

Bernard Phillips was slain in his home after being shot twice in the chest and abdomen area, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said. The official cause of death was listed as multiple gunshot wounds.

North Chicago police didn't return calls seeking details on the case.

Phillips was pronounced dead at 5:28 a.m. Monday at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. It's believed North Chicago police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating.
