Ugandan children's choir gets $10,000 donation after theft

A businessman has donated $10,000 to a Ugandan children's choir on a U.S. tour after someone stole laptops, video equipment and a passport from their van parked on Chicago's West Side.

The president of Midway Airport Concessions, Timothy Rand, donated the money after seeing a TV report about the burglary. Rand says he wanted to help "ease some of the pain."

The coordinator of the SIFA African Children's Choir, Carrie Harless, says the group includes 20 boys and girls raising money for a Ugandan school and orphanage.

The van was broken into as the children were about to perform at a Chicago church Sunday.

Harless says the laptops contained photos of the children's families.

Many of the children lost parents to AIDS and their last pictures with family were stolen.
