Judson moves up in college ranks

Judson University earned a berth in the top tier of colleges in the U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges Survey, which was released Friday. Among higher education institutions in the Midwest, Judson is ranked 18th as one of the best baccalaureate colleges in the Midwest, up from 21 in last year's survey. The Elgin university also was listed among five Midwest schools where graduates have the least amount of debt upon graduation. On average, Judson graduates accrue $12,664 in debt.

Tour ECC classrooms, register in Streamwood

Elgin Community College will hold an open house for its corporate and continuing education classes from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Streamwood Village Hall, 301 E. Irving Park Road. Visitors also can register for credit and noncredit courses, and enter a drawing for a free $50 noncredit course. Work on Huntley, Boncosky roads

Pavement patching will begin today on Huntley Road between Sleepy Hollow Road and Tartans Drive and also along Boncosky Road from River Ridge to Route 31 in West Dundee. The roadwork, which is expected to end Friday, will reduce Huntley Road to one lane, while Boncosky Road will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Food drive in Elgin

The United Way of Elgin will hold a community food drive for its 14th annual Day of Caring. Donations throughout August and early September will be accepted at the United Way office, 2022 Larkin Ave., or any city fire station. The items will be taken to local food pantries on Sept. 5.
