Chicago man dies at Indiana beach

WHITING, Ind. -- Indiana conservation officers say a 26-year-old Chicago man apparently drowned while swimming in Lake Michigan.

Authorities say 26-year-old Oscar Franco had been swimming with friends at Whiting's Whihala Beach about 1 a.m. Saturday. Franco's friends left without him, then called police later when he did not return home.

The Lake County coroner's office says Franco was pronounced dead when his body was found about 10 a.m. Saturday at the beach. The coroner's office says the death appears to be accidental.
