District 23 looking for new board member

Prospect Heights Elementary District 23 is looking for a new board member to serve until the next election in April.

The seat is open after the resignation of Tom Pawlik, who has moved out of the district. He had been on the board since March, when he was appointed after Tom Klingner resigned. Pawlik was one of four people who applied.

District 23 covers much of Prospect Heights and parts of Wheeling, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights.

Eligible candidates are 18 or older and live within the district's boundaries.

Board members must attend one meeting a month and are expected to serve on committees, which meet occasionally. The position is nonpaid.

It'd be a good time for a new board member to join because there aren't any pressing issues that'd require a quick study, said Superintendent Greg Guarrine.

The next person appointed would presumably serve out the term, which expires in April, and then run for the seat if he or she wanted a term.

Apply in writing by Sept. 3. Resumes must be submitted to: Mrs. Judi Zimmerman, president, board of education, Prospect Heights School District 23, 700 N. Schoenbeck Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070.
