The Geneva football program will hold a benefit golf outing Sept. 1 to help defray the costs of assistant coach Mark Fagot's expenses as he battles cancer.

The outing will start at 1:30 p.m. at Hughes Creek Golf Course in Elburn. There is a dinner and silent auction at 6:30 p.m.

Golf and dinner costs $125. Dinner only is $40, and $5 for children.

Ki's Outing: The 10th Annual Ki's Golf Outing, to benefit the American Cancer Society and the Aplastic Anemia Foundation, will be held Monday, Aug. 25 at Glendale Lakes Golf Club (1550 President Street) in Glendale Heights.

The outing, which will feature four-player teams and a best ball scramble format, is being spearheaded by longtime professional sports executive Jim Bentel and Ki's Restaurant employee Chris Lopez.

A shotgun start will kick things off at 12 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m. (a grill lunch will also be served during registration).

Dinner will follow at Ki's Restaurant in Glen Ellyn (705 North Ave.) with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar at 5 p.m. and a prime rib dinner at 6 p.m. Prizes and raffles will also be part of the evening's festivities.

The cost of the outing is $100 per golfer (for golf and dinner) or $50 (for either golf or dinner only). A hole sponsorship is available for $100. The Ki's Golf Outing is held in memory of Bentel's late wife, Catherine L. Bentel, who passed away as the result of aplastic anemia.

This IHSA approved league is the area's longest running and most economical fall league. Over 1,900 players have participated through the past 23 years with hundreds going on to compete at the collegiate level.

The league is scheduled to run from Thursday, Sept. 4, through Sept. 30. Games will be played on every Tuesday and Thursday during the month of September beginning at 4:30 p.m. All games will be played on Waubonsee Community College's baseball diamond in Sugar Grove and all players signed up are guaranteed playing time. Each of the eight game days will provide players the opportunity to use Waubonsee's new outdoor hitting facility that features two astro-turfed batting cages and multiple hitting stations.

Individuals interested in playing should attend an organizational meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 4:30 p.m. on the Sugar Grove campus. The meeting will take place in Room 218 of Erickson Hall, Waubonsee's gymnasium, with a $60 fee due at that time.
