Facts blame GOP, not the Democrats
Mr. Gniech claims "facts are facts" in his Aug. 17 letter laying the blame for our present economic woes on the election of Democrats to Congress.
Well, not so fast. First, he fails to mention Wall Street, mortgage brokers, bond rating agencies and a host of other players who made tons of money in this house of cards they built in the housing market, which is now decimating Main Street.
Next, he blames Democrats for $4 gas prices when actually gas prices rose when the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates drastically, again caused by the Wall Street debacle and the credit crunch.
Speculators, as it turns out, were also responsible but Democrats were tarred and feathered when they wanted this investigated by Congress.
The fact that people aren't screaming mad at this administration that totted more homeownership than ever as they dismantled government oversight is amazing.
Mr. Gniech might also have conveniently forgotten why the Republicans were thrown out of office.
First scandals, Tom Delay, Jack Abramoff, Mark Foley, to name just a few; as well as the Katrina disaster, now also add to that list Alaska Sen. Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevens and Alaska Rep. Don Young.
The corruption that occurred and continues within this Republican administration is endless.
How much more change can I stand? A lot. We have a long way to go, I think, in restoring people's confidence.
A real change of guard is certainly in order.
