Kirk revises TV ad hitting Seals on gasoline stunt

U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk had to rewrite a cable television ad Friday because it used footage of a TV anchor in an attack on opponent Dan Seals.

The ad blasts Seals for a late May campaign stunt in which the Democratic candidate gave away free gas in Lincolnshire.

The event caused significant traffic backups, attracted widespread media attention and led to Seals getting a $2,200 bill for the extra police work it caused.

Kirk's ad originally featured a TV anchor from NBC5 saying the event "cost" Seals more than expected.

The Highland Park Republican's campaign was contacted by NBC5 representatives about the ad and was asked to pull it.

"Obviously we wanted to honor that request," said Kirk spokesman Eric Elk.

The campaign removed the TV anchor from the ad and it remains on cable.
