Federal flood aid deadline nears

SPRINGFIELD -- Federal authorities say more than $14.6 million in federal disaster grants and loans have been approved to help Illinois residents and businesses recover from this summer's flooding.

So far, about 3,200 homeowners and renters in 18 counties have applied for disaster assistance to help cover the cost of home repair and replacement and property loss.

About 117 disaster loans have been awarded to businesses.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency says Monday is the last day for Illinois residents to provide for the financial help.

Meanwhile, the Small Business Administration says loan applications must be postmarked by Monday.

Lake Co. is the only eligible for disaster assistance in the Chicago area.
