Man held at knifepoint while robbers ransack house

A lockbox containing more than $1,000 and personal items was stolen from a home on Prestwick Court in West Dundee during a home invasion early Thursday morning.

West Dundee Detective Christopher Diori said at approximately 5:30 a.m., the homeowner, a man in his 40s, went to his door to retrieve his morning newspaper.

The home on Prestwick Court is in the Tartans subdivision west of Spring Hill Mall.

The homeowner said two men outside pushed their way inside the home by pressing a knife against him.

Once inside, one intruder held the knife against the man and the other ransacked the home, pulling out drawers, throwing things on the floor and looking in different places.

West Dundee police said they were unsure how long it lasted but the 911 call came in to them at 6:43 a.m.

After locating the lockbox and subsequently leaving the home, the two intruders got into a dark-colored subcompact car driven by a third man.

The homeowner was not injured, police said.

While other home burglaries have occurred recently in the area, "This incident does not appear to be related to them," Diori said.

He said police went door-to-door in the Tartans subdivision Thursday and carried a composite sketch of one of the home invaders to see if someone might recognize him.
