Elgin man pleads not guilty to 24 sex crimes

A 65-year-old Elgin man pleaded not guilty Friday to 24 counts of felony sex crimes.

Salvador Camacho, of 152 Westgate Drive, faces a mandatory prison sentence of four to 15 years and the possibility of lifetime parole if convicted of just one of the most serious charges, criminal sexual assault, officials said.

Camacho did not speak in court, other than to enter his plea and request a jury trial. In all, the longtime Elgin resident is charged with five counts of criminal sexual assault and 19 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Kane County Judge Robert Spence said Camacho would have to serve consecutively any sentences related to multiple sexual assault convictions. The aggravated criminal sexual abuse allegations each carry possible prison sentences of between 3 and 7 years, although whether they could be served concurrently is discretionary, prosecutors said.

Camacho, who posted $15,000 bail and was released after his May arrest, remains on home electronic monitoring. He has been ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims and avoid going to their homes, and also must not leave the country.

The case was investigated by the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, which looks into matters involving children for the state's attorney's office, though details of the accusations were not discussed in open court.

Camacho's next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 25.
