Briefs: Route 83 closed at crossing

Motorists are reminded that Route 83 is closed at the Metra rail crossing about one-half mile south of Route 137 in Grayslake. Southbound traffic is directed west on Route 120 to Allegheny Road to Peterson Road to Route 83. Northbound traffic is rerouted in the reverse path. The closure is needed to repair the railroad crossing grade and is expected to be in place until 7 a.m. Wednesday, weather permitting. The detour will be removed if work is completed ahead of schedule.

Last call for lunch

Out to Lunch, MainStreet Libertyville's weekly music and food event, will wrap up its summer season today. Sagebrush is the musical entertainment for the last session from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Cook Park in downtown Libertyville. Fourteen food vendors will be selling their wares.

Fatal accident

Waukegan police Thursday reported a fatal traffic accident that occurred Aug. 13. Police said Klarncce Foxie, 20, of Waukegan was heading west on Pulaski Road, just west of Route 43, when he lost control of his car, swerved into the eastbound lane and struck another car driven by a 40-year-old woman. Foxie was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman and her two children, aged 6 and 2, were taken to Lake Forest Hospital. All were treated and released, police said. Poor weather condition and speeding contributed to the accident, according to police.

Garage sale to help Super Jake Foundation

The Super Jake Foundation will host a community garage sale today, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon, at 702 Waterbury, Gurnee. Items to be sold include a sofa, TVs, baby clothes and items, toys and more. Proceeds will benefit the Super Jake Foundation in its battle against neuroblastoma.
