Batavia club's corn boil Friday

The Bulldog Boosters' Corn Boil is on, despite the mess that construction has made on the campus of Batavia High School.

The annual event, which celebrates the beginning of another year of Batavia athletics, was in some doubt until this week. The north parking lot at the school, and fields adjacent to it, were torn up this summer as part of work to expand the school. Those fields were where the corn boil usually set up. The corn boil will be conducted instead on the north end of the football field. School officials have promised the boosters that there will be paths for visitors to walk from the parking lot to the field, said Julie Allen, corn boil chairwoman. The event is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $4 for senior citizens, $6 for students and $7 for adults. After the corn boil, there is a mandatory meeting in the gymnasium for fall sports athletes and their parents.

School began Wednesday, but the golf teams started their seasons earlier this week. The varsity football team's first game is Aug. 29 at St. Charles East High School, and the first home game is Sept. 5.
