Ellett helps Whips win BC Invite

Hampshire freshman Connie Ellett burst onto the high school golf scene Tuesday in a big way.

Ellett shot a 1-under par 34 at Green Tree in DeKalb to lead the Whip-Purs to the championship of the Burlington Central Invitational. The Whips shot a 162, 5 shots better than second place Rockford Lutheran. Host Burlington had a 193 for third place in the six-school event.

Connie Ellett's sophomore sister Taylor shot a 40 and finished fourth while freshman Grace Jakubowski and junior Tina Tuminaro each had 44s for the Whip-Purs.

"It was a fantastic start and this meet will give our kids a ton of confidence," said Hampshire coach Sue Ellett.

Stevenson d. Buffalo Grove: Kaitlin Garske shot 38 and the rest of Stevenson's counting scores were under 50 as the Patriots shot 175 to top Buffalo Grove (219). The Bison were led by K.C. Dunne with a 51.

Travel softball

Elgin Heat tryouts: The Elgin Heat Girls Softball Association will be holding tryouts for their 12U and 16U teams Saturday at the Elgin Sports Complex on field #No. 10. Tryouts will begin at 9a.m. and participants are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to complete their registration and stretch. For further information, please contact cholthus@aol.com.
