Filling Emil Jones' seat with his son
Emil Jones III must be a graduate of the Stroger-Lipinski graduate school of political dynasties.
At least, Daley ran for office and was defeated once before he assumed his throne.
If appointed to fill his father's vacancy (and it is not much of an if), Jones III will have the power of his office in the fall election and I am sure the backing of the powerful Democratic machine.
Senate President Jones incurred the wrath of many of his colleagues during the last regular session, and it is doubtful that he would be elected Senate president again, although his senatorial district seat is assured.
By resigning, he can go out on top and at least keep the senatorial position in the family.
The replacement appointment must be made by the Cook County Democratic committeemen whose recent replacement activities have been less than luminous.
Just another chapter in the never-ending saga of politics in Chicago and Cook County.
