Algonquin approves corporate complex
A development that promises to complement Algonquin's vision of becoming a more environmentally friendly community sailed through the village board Tuesday night.
Trustees gave the thumbs up to a 56,000 square-foot warehouse and office building slated for the Corporate Campus, as well as its zoning and an annexation agreement.
Algonquin-based developer RSR Associates LLC is behind the new project and Advantage Moving will be the building's main tenant. As part of the annexation agreement, RSR will help cover pending improvements on nearby Boyer Road and contribute $30,000 to the village.
"I think that just shows that this village, even despite the fact that we're in a horrible economy, we've still got a very good community to offer and we're very excited that the businesses are still willing to make the investment in our community," said Village President John Schmitt.
The building should hold between eight and 10 businesses that would all have office space and access to a storage room within the warehouse. Officials say they're in the process of securing tenants for the building.
The plans have been popular among trustees and are in keeping with Algonquin's mission to be a greener village. An on-site detention pond with plants at its base will filter out stormwater before sending it to the village water system. Bike racks will be put around the building to encourage bike use.
The project should be completed by the fall.
