Seals campaign built from ground

In response to a recent letter entitled "Dan Seals is far from grass roots," Seals' campaign is organized entirely from the grass roots.

Dan started with no support from the Democratic Party. None. In 2006, party leaders would not even return his calls. They had completely written off any chance of him defeating Republican Mark Kirk.

But after Seals got 47 percent of votes cast in this district in 2006, we realized that our district just needed a good Democratic candidate.

And to this day, the campaign continues to be grass roots organized and supported.

Consider the over 70 unpaid high school and college interns working for Seals who sacrificed their summers to help his campaign. Most live in the district and know that Kirk does not represent our interests in Washington.

Consider that Seals' campaign is funded by over 2,000 individual contributors, while much of Republican incumbent Kirk's money comes from the Telecom and oil industries.

Consider that Seals' campaign started from nothing, and with a handful of hard-working volunteers, he has built a respectable campaign to spread his message of change.
