Manic Monday for Pace riders
Commuters in the South suburbs fell victim to bad blood between Pace suburban bus service and its drivers Monday.
A number of drivers from Pace's South Division, based in Markham, didn't show up for work, leading to reduced service and longer travel times, Pace officials said.
The so-called "sickout" stems from dissatisfaction over a contract offer, rejected by members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1028 last week.
The job action affected public transit users in the South suburbs stretching as far as University Park.
The action affects about 26,000 riders, authorities said.
Pace officials called the union's action illegal and said they would consider firing employees who participated.
