Circo Rocktastico Tour coming to Metro

This MTV Tr3s-sponsored jaunt shines a spotlight on the Latin alternative rock scene, which is largely still segregated from mainstream rock. That's silly, since Monte Negro's emo/pop, The May Fire's female-fronted grunge and Astra Heights' Brit-influenced college rock don't sound very different from what you'd hear on non-Latin rock radio. Each has crossover potential, so check 'em out now and place bets on who'll make it big.

Genghis Tron

Philadelphia's fabulously named Genghis Tron promotes LP No. 2, "Board Up the House" (Relapse), another collision of icy IDM beats, caustic grindcore slashings and nervous post-rock textures. The avant-metal trio headlines this show fresh from a tour with The Faint, which hits Chicago's Vic Theatre Friday. Local electro-rockers Bachelor Party Weekend and Heart Shaped Hate open.

8 p.m. Aug. 24 at Otto's, 118 E. Lincoln Hwy., DeKalb. $8. (866) 427-3401 or kickstandproductions.net.

Buddy Guy

The legendary Buddy Guy released his latest CD, "Skin Deep" (Silvertone), last month. For a man who made such an impact on the evolution of blues and rock, it's surprising that "Deep" is the 72-year-old guitarist's first album comprised entirely of his own material. It also follows the pattern of pairing an influential veteran with younger players (Eric Clapton, Susan Tedeschi, Robert Randolph), so it's fitting that Jonny Lang opens this tour.

8 p.m. Aug. 28 at Ravinia Festival, 418 Sheridan Road, Highland Park. $20-$60 advance, $25-$65 day of show. (847) 266-5100 or ravinia.org.
