McCain shouldn't be called a hero
I wish people would stop calling John McCain a hero as it cheapens the meaning of the word.
Surrendering to the enemy is not heroic. Prudent probably, but not heroic.
He is also called a hero because he refused an early release from the POW camp because " he didn't feel that it was his turn."
When I was in the army during World War II, we were told that it was our duty, if captured, to escape if possible and get back into the war. McCain elected to sit out the rest of the war in the POW camp. Probably prudent, but again not heroic.
We owe it to the real heroes not to throw the word away on political opportunists like McCain who has turned his POW experience into a lifelong place on the public payroll.
