Man fatally shot by Chicago police

Authorities say a Chicago Police officer shot and killed a man who reportedly confronted him with a firearm on the city's southwest side.

Officer John Henry of the Chicago Police News Affairs office said the shooting occurred about 10:10 p.m. Sunday in the 4900 block of West 45th Street.

The man shot by the officer was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and nursing supervisor Toni Hamilton said he was pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.

The Independent Police Review Authority was investigating the incident.
