Lawmakers sue to keep IDOT jobs in capital

SPRINGFIELD -- Three state legislators and Springfield city officials have filed a lawsuit to keep Gov. Rod Blagojevich from moving 140 state jobs to southern Illinois.

The lawsuit in Sangamon County Circuit Court seeks to bar Blagojevich from buying a Harrisburg building because the attorney general hasn't approved as state law requires.

There likely will be a court hearing next week. A Blagojevich spokesman says "the law is on our side" and the move will proceed.

Blagojevich plans to move 140 employees of the Illinois Department of Transportation's traffic-safety division out of the capital city to save money and help the southern Illinois economy.
