Barrington man remains in critical condition after scooter crash

A Barrington man has improved to serious condition at Rockford Memorial Hospital after falling off his scooter and landing in a ditch, authorities said. He was in critical after the accident.

The McHenry County sheriff's department has opened an investigation into the crash, which occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday in unincorporated Grafton Township, near Huntley.

According to police, Ronald M. Bransky, whose age was not provided, was traveling south on North Union Road just south of Hamilton Road, when for unknown reasons he lost control of his 1960 Cushman Highlander scooter.

Bransky then fell off the vehicle and rolled over several times on the asphalt before falling into the east side ditch area, police said.

The scooter fell to its side, slid on the ground and finally stopped moving on the roadway's east side.

Police did not say Sunday if he was wearing a helmet.

Bransky was airlifted to the Rockford hospital, where he remained Sunday.

No one else was involved in the accident, to which Huntley Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff's Department responded.
