Mondro hired as Loyola assistant coach
Former University of Detroit Mercy coach Kevin Mondro has been named assistant men's basketball coach at Loyola University, Ramblers head coach Jim Whitesell announced today.
Mondro spent the past 11 years as part of the staff at Detroit, and served as interim head coach for part of the 2007-08 season.
"Kevin was a big part of Detroit's success over the last decade, helping teams to postseason play four times, and he is very knowledgeable about the Horizon League," Whitesell said. "I have always had a tremendous amount of respect for (former Detroit coach) Perry Watson and his program."
At Detroit, Mondro worked with the Titans' perimeter players and his influence helped current Philadelphia 76ers guard Willie Green earn Horizon League Player of the Year accolades in 2003. While active in scouting and scheduling, Mondro also was Detroit's recruiting coordinator.
