Supporting Gray a solid investment
A front-page article in Monday's (Aug. 4) Daily Herald regarding my fundraising and that of my opponent in the 30th District State Senate race left the reader with the unintended and incorrect impression that I believe that my campaign to unseat current State Sen. Terry Link is a "bad investment." Frankly, nothing could be further from the truth. The quote used in the article was part of a longer answer to a question that was not presented in its entirety, thus changing my intended meaning. The point I made to the Herald reporter was that, with the benefit of my experience in raising campaign funds over the first half of this year, I now realize that I need to articulate specific reasons as to why I feel I can win against a well-funded, entrenched opponent, and that without making these reasons clear, backing me doesn't look like a good investment. I am confident, however, that this task can be accomplished, and many voters will be persuaded to "invest" in our campaign to bring reform to state government. Already, I am very encouraged at the number and enthusiasm of volunteers once they understand the total dysfunction of our state government. Once voters understand that, despite the funding advantage of my opponent, nothing is going to change unless we send new people to Springfield, I fully expect that "investment" in this campaign will bring us a victory in November.
