Man charged in Mundelein stabbing ordered held on $250,000 bond

A man accused of stabbing two men outside a Mundelein bar told a Lake County judge Sunday he was acting in self-defense.

Associate Judge David Brodsky ordered Alex Revelo, 21, to stop speaking before Revelo could elaborate and then ordered him held on $250,000 bond.

Revelo, of 64. N. Prairie Ave., is charged with aggravated battery and aggravated battery with a weapon in the altercation just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Assistant State's Attorney Jason Grindel said Revelo got into an argument with a group of people outside Emil's, 604 N. Lake St.

The argument turned physical between Revelo and a 26-year-old Mundelein man, Grindel said, and Revelo stabbed the man three times in the lower back.

A 27-year-old man from Grayslake then waded into the fray, Grindel said, and wound up being stabbed once in the upper left thigh.

The Grayslake man was released from Condell Medical Center in Libertyville later Saturday, Grindel said, and the Mundelein man remains there in stable condition.

Police arrived on the scene to find Revelo sitting in another man's car and took him into custody after witnesses identified him as the knife-wielder.

A 3-inch folding knife was found in Revelo's pocket, Grindel said.

Revelo appeared in bond court Sunday morning dressed in an orange paper jumpsuit because police had confiscated his clothing as evidence.

Toward the end of the hearing, Brodsky gave him permission to speak, but cut him off immediately after Revelo said "Your honor, this was self-defense."

Revelo told Brodsky he works for a plumbing company, and Brodsky ordered him to return to court Aug. 29 to report on his progress in hiring an attorney.

Should he be able to post the $25,000 needed for his bond, Revelo will be confined to his home except when working and will have to undergo random drug and alcohol testing.

Grindel said Revelo faces up to 14 years in prison if convicted.
