It's goodbye pies, hello cars in Hoffman Estates
The Woodfield Nissan dealership wants to expand into the now-shuttered Bakers Square lot on Higgins Road.
The auto dealership wants to use the property of the former eatery - among several in the Chicago area that closed after their parent company went bankrupt - to display cars for sale, said Josh Edwards, an assistant village planner for Hoffman Estates.
The local Bakers Square at 790 W. Higgins Road has been closed since fall. Village officials soon after began talking to folks at Woodfield Nissan about purchasing lot, which is less than an acre, and eventually the deal went through. Woodfield Nissan at 700 W. Higgins Road is just east of where Higgins and Golf Road intersect.
The plan is to demolish the restaurant and also erect signs that are 25 and 15 feet tall, Edwards said.
The plans are to be reviewed Wednesday by the village plan commission and could come up for village board approval within a matter of weeks. Construction of another building on the parcel is not planned, Edwards added.
