Our energy woes caused by inaction

Denmark did not sit on their hands. France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, did not sit on their hands.

The energy presentation that began in May 1978 identifies where we get our energy, what we do with our energy, and encouraging a proactive local, state and federal energy policy.

Very unfortunately, our public and our government is reactive instead of proactive.

As one example, while energy efficient electrical train technology has been developed elsewhere, train tracks have been torn up in America, catering to truck transport and airlines, all dependent on petroleum.

Another example is that nuclear-fueled electrical generating plant contracts have not been awarded since the 1960s while France, Germany, Japan have a high percentage of their electrical needs met with the Westinghouse pressurized water design, the identical design that powers our Navy nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers.

These countries do know and appreciate the benefits of nuclear power.

Another example is that two operating Zion nuclear plants were prematurely shuttered when a court-sealed "secret" agreement was made between Commonwealth Edison and Westinghouse Electric Corporation about a multi-utility steam generator court suit.

There are many more examples.

Our energy situation today, our dependence on fossil fuel, our inaction, is the cause of where we are today.
