Briefs: Free GED prep classes

Free GED preparation classes will be offered by the Adult Education program at Community High School in West Chicago, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago. Classes wil be from 7 to 9:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and registration begins Sept. 3. For details, call (630) 876-6578.

District 88 registration

Student registration for DuPage High School District 88 begins Monday. Students and their parents or guardians will pick up class and bus schedules, pay fees, purchase books and complete required paperwork. Registration will be conducted at Addison Trail High School, 213 N. Lombard Road., Addison and Willowbrook High School, 1250 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. according to the following schedule: seniors Monday, freshmen Tuesday, sophomores Wednesday, juniors Thursday and open registration from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Classes start Aug. 27.

Lombard astronaut to thank village

Lombard Astronaut Dan Tani plans to publicly thank village officials Aug. 20 for their help and support in handling the crisis last December when his mother, Rose, was killed in an accident. Tani was on the International Space Station when he received the news. His visit to village hall is set for at 1 p.m., in the board room, before he throws out the first pitch later that night for Chicago Cubs game at Wrigley Field.
