It's the end of the trail for PWT
It didn't quite have the staying power of the BassMasters fishing tournaments, but 19 years on the books was still a decent run for the Professional Walleye Tournament Trail.
Mid-October will be the last PWT tourney. Then the organization calls it quits.
The PWT was the second major walleye tournament group formed by former In-Fisherman founders Ron and Al Lindner.
It's believed that because a major outboard motor and leading boat manufacturer didn't sign on to be major sponsors of the professional events, PWT officials realized their days were numbered.
Fowl play: Illinois waterfowl hunters take note: We will have another 60-day duck hunting season for the upcoming season, along with an 85-day Canada goose hunting season in the north and central zones, and a 60-day season in the south zone. The daily limit for ducks is six, with no more than four mallards in that bag (two hens, three wood ducks, two red heads, one black duck and one pintail).
Hook and line action:
Fox Chain: Excellent bluegill and crappie action on Marie, Channel and Pistakee Lakes. On Fox Lake, white bass are being caught in 7 feet of water. Walleye action is decent on Channel Lake, while muskie activity has improved on Lake Catherine.
Fox River: Channel and flathead catfish action improved at the Carpentersville Dam. Smallmouth bass available below the Kimball Street bridge in Elgin.
Bangs Lake: Good largemouth bass activity just after sunset on the lake's east shoreline. A few decent walleyes taken from 18-foot depths during low-light periods.
Lake Michigan: Shore anglers at Waukegan seem to have found the sweet spot for yellow perch. Morning hours are best for perch and king salmon.
