Park board thanks Mundelein soldier

The Mundelein Park & Recreation District board of commissioners adopted a resolution July 14 recognizing Carmel High School graduate and Mundelein resident U.S. Army Pfc. Patrick Madison for his courage, his injuries and the "outstanding public service he provided his country" during his two years of service in the U.S. Army, including service in Iraq.

In appreciation, Madison was given a complementary membership to park district facilities.

A member of the 3rd Infantry Division, Madison has been recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington from injuries he received in May. This was the second time he has been injured in Iraq.

Make-A-Wish needs bilingual volunteers

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois is seeking Lake County residents who are fluent in both English and Spanish to become volunteer Wish Granters. Wish Granters help facilitate the wish process for local children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Wish Granters are provided free training and have the full support of the Make-A-Wish staff and other volunteers for guidance in granting wishes. Each prospective volunteer must successfully complete an interview and two state background checks as well as provide references.

Last year, 20 percent of the wishes granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois were for children who identified themselves as Hispanic. Call (800) 978-9474 or visit www.wishes.org.
