Pooch Parade: 9 a.m. Aug. 16, Jaycee Park, 1050 Wilmot Road, Deerfield. The cost for a dog and owner to join this 2-mile charity walk is a $20 donation, which goes directly to benefit the animals at Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter. Rally for Autism: Race starts at 9 a.m. Aug. 16, Independence Grove Forest Preserve, on Route 137, east of Route 21, Libertyville. The event will include a 5K run, a 5K family fun walk and a Kids' Goody Grab. On-site registration will start at 7 a.m. Runners and walkers can warm up with the Bally Total Fitness Team at 8:40 a.m., and, after the race, enjoy a variety of food. Proceeds will fund autism research, the Northeast Illinois Chapter of the Autism Society of America, the Autism Society of Illinois, and other organizations that serve the autism community as well as autism research. The cost is $25 to register for the 5K run or walk, and the Kids' Goody Grab is free. Lake Villa Cross-town Classic: 10 a.m. Aug. 16, Lake Villa Baseball Park, Grass Lake Road, Lake Villa. Teams that include mayors, trustees, police officers, firefighters and village employees from Lake Villa, Antioch, Lindenhurst and Fox Lake will compete in a softball tournament to raise funds for the continuous improvement and upkeep of the award-winning baseball park. Weather permitting, the event will include the "Helicopter Ball Drop" raffle around 4:30.
IDR+ Dog Wash: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 17, Tracy's Doggone Farm, 39636 Kilbourne Road, Wadsworth. Benefits Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus. A wash, dry, nail trim and ear cleaning are included for $25. Food, dog massages and IDR+ gear will also be available for purchase. All breeds are welcome.
