Stop gender-based wage inequities
The Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 1338) won approval by the U.S. House of Representatives 247 - 178 on July 31.
It is now pending in a Senate committee. The bill is intended to prevent gender-based wage discrimination by amending the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 and provides more effective remedies to victims in the payment of wages.
Among those voting against equal pay for women was Mark Kirk. By his negative vote, Kirk is implying that working women don't deserve the same pay for the same work as men do.
Democratic challenger Dan Seals is trying to close that inequitable pay gap.
At present, with the American economy struggling, it is imperative that wages be based on one's ability and performance, not on gender.
