A simple solution to gang problems

As a retired Michigan police detective and student of history, I can help Mr. McCray (Fence Post, Aug. 1) dramatically shrink gangs in Chicago and beyond.

Since the number one reason for the growth of gangs and gang violence is their involvement in the drug trade, place all these illegal drugs in a state-run ABC store.

When these drugs are sold like the deadly drugs, alcohol and tobacco, by a $12-an-hour clerk, the gangs will shrink dramatically.
