Battery charges filed against Chicago cop

Felony charges have been filed against a Chicago police officer accused of attacking two people at a suburban lounge while off duty.

Gerald Callahan pleaded not-guilty Monday to two felony counts of aggravated battery. He had initially faced misdemeanor charges for the May incident at The Chambers Seafood Grille and Chop House in Niles. Prosecutors have dropped those charges.

Bond was at $5,000 on the felony charges Monday.

Niles police say the 42-year-old officer attacked the two victims for no apparent reason, fled the scene and was arrested about 40 minutes later.

A 61-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were injured in the attack.

Callahan is scheduled to appear in court September 29th in Skokie.
