Legislators must reject pay raises

In May I introduced and passed House Joint Resolution 132, which rejects a scheduled pay raise for legislators.

The president of the Senate, Emil Jones, has publicly stated he wants the raises to take effect and will likely refuse to allow a vote in his chamber.

By the time we close business on the second special session day, depending on the Comptroller's determination, the raises may become law.

I strongly urge President Jones to call my measure for a vote before then and let the public know that we stand with them, not for ourselves.

If President Jones refuses and lawmakers' salaries increase, I will donate my raise to local charities and encourage fellow legislators to do the same.

People are sick and tired of politicians who only look out for themselves and ignore middle class concerns. For the good of the state, that attitude must change.
