Another successful leukemia fundraiser
Being somewhat busy at my "day job" while busy planning our fourth annual Jessica Shayne Magid Family Golf Tournament (see www.jsmfamilygolf.org), I became somewhat remiss at submitting this short article about some teenage boys in our community of whom I am especially proud.
Let me briefly point out that my sister, Rochelle, and I four years ago urged the Leukemia Research Foundation to allow us to organize a family oriented golf outing that would raise money to fund research to cure these terrible blood cancers.
With some persistent arguments and with the cooperation of the Traditions of Chevy Chase in Wheeling, we were able to hold our first tournament. We recently held the above mentioned fourth annual and can proudly say that over the four years of this event we have now raised in excess of $100,000 to help find that cure.
As an adjunct to this tournament we began youth organized neighborhood car washes. This year our teen coordinators Evan Kander; Paul Timko and J.P. Kulick raised over $1,200. These fine young men are stellar examples for the youth in our community as to the meaning of "community involvement."
And thanks to their workers as well: Walter Zawlocki; Kathryn Crown; Seth Parker; Brian DeSimone; John Schumaker; James Bakun; John Bakun; Steve Miller; James Hurley; Sean McCourt; Danny Linden; Kyle Czarnecki; and Zach Jones.
Save July 17, 2009 for our fifth annual JSM Family Golf Tournament. If you would like to become involved as a participant, volunteer, or "car washer" send us an e-mail.
