Parents arrested after five kids found in street
A Mundelein couple are facing criminal charges after their five young children were found playing in the street near their home without adult supervision, authorities said Friday.
Monyca Hill, 29, and Aaron Hill, 32, both of 643 Countryside Highway, were arrested Thursday. Each was charged with one count of child endangerment.
Monyca Hill also was charged with resisting a peace officer because she struggled with officers trying to handcuff her, police said.
No one was hurt.
Police learned of the situation about 9 a.m. Wednesday after a motorist driving through the area saw the children - ages 3 to 8 - playing in the street, authorities said. She stopped her vehicle, removed the kids from the street and then called police, authorities said.
The kids, who police said seemed to be in good health, told responding officers where they live, and the officers went to the house and found the doors locked. The officers knocked on the doors and windows for 15 minutes until the Hills answered the door, police said.
The Hills said they were asleep and unaware the children were outside, police said.
Officers stayed with the children until a relative arrived and took custody.
The Department of Children and Family Services was notified and will investigate, police said.
The Hills were released from police custody after each posted $100 bail. Both are scheduled to appear n Lake County circuit court in Waukegan on Aug. 25.
They could not be reached for comment Friday.
