Hanover Park man held after gun incident

A Hanover Park man was ordered held on bond Saturday after he was shot at Wednesday by two men in a dark car.

Omar Angon, 20, of 7402 Briar Lane, was standing on the 2000 block Narcissus Avenue in Hanover Park at an unspecified time Wednesday when two men in a black car drove past and fired several shots at him and a friend, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Scott Horwitz.

Witnesses saw Angon run to the back of the building, grab a gun and return to the front, Horwitz told Cook County Judge Anthony A. Iosco Saturday morning at a bond court hearing in Rolling Meadows.

Police later located Angon at his home where police found a .380 caliber semiautomatic pistol in a laundry basket in his closet, Horwitz said.

It was later found that the gun had been reported stolen in Schaumburg, he said. Angon was charged with possession of a stolen handgun, possession of a gun without a firearm owner's identification card, possession of ammunition without a FOID card and defacing a gun's serial number.

He was given a $10,000 bond, which requires him to post $1,000 cash to be released.

Angon's public defender, Craig Rosenthal, told Iosco that his client is married, has a child and is employed. He has no criminal background, Horwitz said. Angon's next court date is 9 a.m. Aug. 19 in Rolling Meadows.

Hanover Park police did not return phone calls Saturday inquiring about whether anyone was injured in the shooting, or if the men who had fired the shots had been apprehended.
