Briefs: ECC student group lauded
Elgin Community College's Organization of Latin American Students recently won the Lideres Summit Award for Achievement at the National Council of La Raza conference in San Diego. The award is given each year to the group that has mad a significant impact on their campus. This is the third year OLAS has won the award.
St. Charles wants your logo
The logo design contest for the image that will represent the 175th Anniversary Celebration of St. Charles is now in full swing. Open to professional graphic designers, marketing professionals, and print professionals in St. Charles, the contest deadline is Aug. 15. The winning business/designer will receive recognition throughout the yearlong celebration for their design. Other prizes will be awarded. The winner will be announced on Sept. 5. The winning original design will be used for publications and advertising of all anniversary related events. St. Charles will celebrate its 175th anniversary in 2009. Band set for St. Charles block party
The Downtown St. Charles Partnership has announced that Chicago-based band Hello Dave will perform at "All Decked Out", the organization's communitywide block party to celebrate the opening of the new parking deck in downtown St. Charles. "All Decked Out" will occur 2 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14. Hello Dave is scheduled to play from 6 to 8 p.m. Last year, about 3,000 people attended the block party to celebrate the completion of the south end of 1st Street."All Decked Out" will take place on Walnut Street at the Route 31 entrance to the parking deck, as well as surrounding areas. It will offer a "taste of St. Charles," with numerous local restaurants presenting their fare. Businesses located in the downtown district can participate in "All Decked Out" for free, with a tent, tables and chairs provided at no cost to them.
