Six injured in crash at Rt. 173, tollway

Six people were hurt Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash near Wadsworth, authorities said.

The accident happened about 9:45 a.m. on Route 173 over the Tri-State Tollway, Newport Township Fire Protection District officials said.

One of the vehicles was turning from the tollway onto Route 173 when it collided with the other vehicle, firefighters said.

Two people were in one car and four were in the other. All six were taken by ambulance to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

Some of the victims were seriously hurt, but none of the injuries was believed life threatening, firefighters said.

Crews from the Zion, Beach Park, Gurnee and Winthrop Harbor fire departments assisted on the scene.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office was investigating the crash. No other details were avalable.
