Briefs: Kane awards health heroes
The Kane County Health Department recognized five people as "Hidden Heroes of Public Health" on Wednesday. Dr. Gary Ahasic and Dr. Brian Tonner won awards for their creation of "Dentists with a Heart," an event which brings together about 30 dentists in around Valentine's Day who provide free dental services for people who could not otherswise afford it. Shannon McCall won an award for the education classes she provides to children through Delnor-Community Hospital. Marcos Bostho was recognized for being a champion of HIV/AIDS prevention and education since 1999. Betty Ann Morton received an award for 20 years of service to more than 1,000 pregnant school-age girls. Morton helps them stay in school both during and after their pregnancies so they can become productive members of society.
Downtown shapes up:
The businesses of Main Street in downtown St. Charles have announced the details of "Make Tracks to Main Street," a new promotion to keep people shopping in downtown St. Charles during the 1st Street Redevelopment and other construction work. It involves 15 businesses and six weeks of prize drawings, beginning Saturday, which offers a $300 Mid-Week Fiesta for 10 people, at Miguel's.

"Navigating the Paper Jungle" will be the topic of the August session of the Downtown St. Charles Partnership's Business Development Breakfast series. The one-hour session will occur at 8 a.m. Tuesday in the Baker Community Center in St. Charles. "Navigating the Paper Jungle" will cover ways to help you organize your office and show you how to manage/remove the paper on your desk. It will be presented by Fran Piekarski, founder of "Remedease", a firm that helps clients create an environment of increased productivity and reduced stress.
