Must reading for the state legislature

My sincere compliments to Joseph Ryan for his three-article series on gambling. This should be must reading for every member of the Illinois General Assembly. Then perhaps our senators and representatives wouldn't be in such a hurry to use gambling revenue to avoid raising taxes. Remember University of Illinois Professor John Kindt's hypothesis: for every dollar the state receives in gambling revenue, it costs three dollars to pay for damages to social services. Gambling is a downward spiral: addiction, embezzling and other crimes to get the money to pay off gambling debts, family breakups, bankruptcies, and in many cases, suicides.
