Police pensions not 'lush' job benefit
Just a day after the Herald editors publish yet another opinion piece criticizing police pensions, a Chicago police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty. Every day for 27 years, Richard Francis put a badge over his heart and went in harm's way, and for every one of those years he paid a portion of his salary into a pension fund. He will never collect his pension, although his widow will receive a survivor benefit.
I wonder if the editors think her compensation for a dead husband is too much? For the Herald editors to continually harp on what they refer to as "lush" benefits for police officers is not only wrong, it's obscene.
